Ever walked outside to find that your yard torn up? Do you see multiple tunnels and mounds of dirt? If this is a constant issue, you might have voles in your yard. There’s nothing worse than trying day after day to get rid of voles with no luck. Luckily, you don’t have to do it yourself. Fox Pest Control can help.
You might already know for sure that you have a vole problem. But here are a couple of the most common signs of a vole problem in Long Island.
Voles are closely related to hamsters, so they like to have defined pathways to follow. These paths snake their way through fields and nearest their favorite plants to eat. Furrows are typically 2 inches wide and may feature many branches over a wide area.
Since they like to live underground, you may see a hole a couple of inches in diameter. These burrow entrances are found in the middle of lawns or near tree roots.
Voles are much more willing to appear in the open than mice. You may even see one scurrying through the grass during the day.

Voles are small, energetic mammals that look similar to mice. In fact, they are often called field mice or meadow mice in North America. However, voles are more closely related to lemmings and hamsters than mice.
For the most part, voles are considered a nuisance pest because they tear up the lawn, eat the garden, destroy valuable plants, and make tunnels throughout the yard.
Voles are mainly herbivores, although some species are omnivores. Voles will stick to eating plant parts, including bulbs, seeds, roots, stems, and leaves.
This is why it’s especially important to keep your yard clean of plant debris, like grass clippings for example.
Voles can spread diseases, including:
Toxoplasma gondii,
Trypanosoma microti,
Rabies
Hantavirus.
We have never needed pest control in the past and we randomly called Fox. We couldn't be happier with Phil the technician that came to service our home. Phil was extremely knowledgeable, thorough and patient. He answered all of our questions and put us at ease. If all of Fox's technicians are like Phil then you'll be in good hands.
